The Mechanism
Human error remains a primary cause of data loss in mirrored systems. Because replication is instantaneous:
- Accidentally deleting a folder or formatting a partition immediately deletes or formats it on both physical disks.
- An administrator rebuilding a degraded array might accidentally choose the blank new drive as the "source" and overwrite the healthy original drive with blank data.
The Impact on RAID 1
The data is wiped instantly from the entire array.
