Power Rail Failures & Transient Voltage Suppressor (TVS) Shorts
  • Primary Failure Mode: Electrical component degradation on the printed circuit board (PCB).
  • The Issue: These legacy 2.5-inch SATA drives are frequently deployed in older desktop setups or external enclosures. They are highly susceptible to power anomalies. Fluctuations from aging power supplies or cheap external USB-SATA enclosures easily blow the drive's protective circuit components.
  • Symptoms:
    • The drive is completely dead—no heat is generated, no lights flash on enclosures, and it is completely undetected by any system.
    • The computer may instantly shut down or refuse to power on when the SATA power cable is plugged into the drive (indicating a direct short circuit).
  • Data Recovery Approach: Circuit-level repair. Engineers use diagnostic multimeters to locate the shorted TVS diodes or fused resistors, desolder the failed components, and bridge or replace them to temporarily power the board back up for data extraction.

Critical Notice: Physical Damage & Hardware Policy

Please be advised that ANY damage that is physical or mechanical in nature requires additional parts and labor.
The baseline mechanical recovery rate covers our cleanroom environment entry, laboratory equipment allocation, and initial micro-engineering setup. Because physical failures require sourcing exact matching donor drives from our global component pipeline to swap out broken read/write head assemblies, seized spindles, or damaged electronics, all components, replacement donor hardware, and extended mechanical bench labor will be billed as additional standalone costs following your diagnosis.
