Western Digital Caviar Black (2TB)

Details
Written by: Seattle Data Recovery
Category: Mac Pro
  • Exact Model: WD2001FASS (2TB, 7200 RPM, Dual Processors)
  • The Breakdown: The absolute fastest factory option available for the Mac Pro 5,1.
  • Common Failures:
    • Intense Vibration and Sled Wear: The immense speed and heavy mechanical head tracking of this drive cause significant micro-vibrations. Over years of operation, this loosens the proprietary Apple drive sled screws. The resulting physical resonance causes acoustic rattling and increases read errors.
    • Preamplifier Failure: The electronic preamp chip located directly on the internal head arm assembly burns out due to heavy data loads, cutting off the signal transmission to the main logic board.

Critical Notice: Physical Damage & Hardware Policy

Please be advised that ANY damage that is physical or mechanical in nature requires additional parts and labor.
The baseline mechanical recovery rate covers our cleanroom environment entry, laboratory equipment allocation, and initial micro-engineering setup. Because physical failures require sourcing exact matching donor drives from our global component pipeline to swap out broken read/write head assemblies, seized spindles, or damaged electronics, all components, replacement donor hardware, and extended mechanical bench labor will be billed as additional standalone costs following your diagnosis.
