Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 / 7200.10 (160GB)

Details
Written by: Seattle Data Recovery
Category: Mac Pro
Hits: 4
Shipped primarily between 2006 and 2007, these smaller drives served as standard boot volumes before solid-state technology became mainstream.
  • Exact Model: ST3160812AS (7200 RPM, SATA 3Gb/s)
  • Apple Part Number (APN): 655-1315D
  • The Breakdown: The default entry-level drive for the original 2006 Mac Pro.
  • Common Failures:
    • Stuck Spindle Bearings: Over time, the fluid dynamic bearings in the 7200.9 series are prone to seizing. If the drive hums quietly but fails to spin up ("stuck motor"), the bearings have locked.
    • The "Click of Death": Sudden read/write head assembly failures cause the drive to click rhythmically as it tries and fails to find the master boot record.

Critical Notice: Physical Damage & Hardware Policy

Please be advised that ANY damage that is physical or mechanical in nature requires additional parts and labor.
The baseline mechanical recovery rate covers our cleanroom environment entry, laboratory equipment allocation, and initial micro-engineering setup. Because physical failures require sourcing exact matching donor drives from our global component pipeline to swap out broken read/write head assemblies, seized spindles, or damaged electronics, all components, replacement donor hardware, and extended mechanical bench labor will be billed as additional standalone costs following your diagnosis.
