The Apple A13 Bionic platform inside the iPhone 11, 11 Pro, and 11 Pro Max brought tightened hardware security, tying the TrueDepth camera array and the screen's logic directly to the secure boot chain. Liquid damage in these devices frequently targets the upper proximity sensor flex cable, which handles Face ID.
Because a short circuit in the Face ID array can cause the A13 chip to experience a kernel panic loop during boot, forensic extraction requires meticulous component isolation. Cleanroom technicians must completely strip the logic board of all non-essential peripheral flex cables. Under 40x microscopic magnification, engineers inject stabilized voltage lines directly into the A13’s core power rails while leaving the shorted sensor lines unpowered, tricking the Secure Enclave into a stable environment where it can accept the user's passcode and decrypt the file system.
